My Minimalist Make Up Routine

So I love make-up although I’m admittedly not great at using it. I also don’t spend time watching a lot of make-up tutorials which probably would really help me out. But nevertheless, I stick with a fairly simple make-up routine.

I’m lucky enough my skin has decided to somewhat behave since I got to college.

Which has led for me to probably make some uncommon choices to what I put on my face regularly.

Make-up I DON’T USE and DON’T HAVE

  • Bronzer

  • Flash eyelashes

  • High end makeup

Make-up I don’t regularly use but still have

  • Mascara

  • Foundation

  • Illuminator

  • Setting spray and make-up primer

Make-up I semi regularly use

  • Blush

  • Eyeshadow

  • Lipstick

  • BB Cream

Make-up I use every day

  • Eye liner

  • Under the eye concealer

There are probably other things I could add, but I can’t think of anything else at the moment.

I don’t regularly use mascara unlike the majority of people I know (that’s their MUST HAVE), because I have long lashes as it is and I think it always clumps weird and doesn’t do a lot.

I also don’t regularly use make-up primer or setting spray unless I’m doing a full face of make-up. And I don’t regularly use foundation unless I’m also trying to do a full face. I personally try not to put a lot on my skin since I’m prone to break outs and I’m forgetful about taking it off.

I normally always use eye-liner and concealer because I think my eyes are my best feature and I try to highlight them under my glasses.

My Full Collection of Make-up

I wanted to include this picture of make it clear that I don’t own a “minimalist” amount of make-up over all.

I like having choices and I enjoy experimenting with new things.

But in my normal day-to-day life, I feel I use a minimal amount of make-up.

Out of the most things I have, I own 7 eyeliners, 15 lipsticks, 4 individual tubes of liquid eyeliner, and 5 palettes of eye shadow.

First off is eye liner.

I am a big fan of eye liner. I think it makes my eyes pop nicely and I love all the different kinds and colors out there.

Although I do prefer pencils over other kinds of eye liner. I haven’t practiced using liquid eyeliner that often or pens, but I find that I prefer pencils the most.

What I love about pencils is that I:

  1. They won’t melt, freeze, or dry up.

  2. They have a better (I believe) environmental impact.

  3. They last me a really long time.

What I don’t like about pencils though is trying to find a specific sharpener for them if they don’t automatically come with one.

I have a beautiful metallic silver eyeliner, but I never was able to find a sharpener for one and now it’s kinda hard to use.

This particular brand is L’oreal Voluminizing Smoldering Eye Liner.

Next on my list, this being a MUST HAVE IF NOTHING ELSE, is under-the-eye concealer.

I believe I have particularly dark and noticeable under the eye bags.

So for me this is an absolute. I have problems though finding a concealer and foundation that aren’t too orange for my skin but this particular tub of NYX Full Coverage Concealer #03 Light/Pale seems to match pretty well and stays most of the day.

I have other concealers, but I don’t normally use them unless I’m having a particular noticeable break out.

I have always loved eye shadow, especially the brighter, the bolder I can get them. In high school, I always wore bright colored eye shadow whenever I could. But these days I really love rose gold, neutral colored eye shadows.

I have a couple of plain versions, but several brightly colored ones as well and they are all sparkly. Regardless, I love wearing sparkly eye shadow to help brighten up my eyes.

This particular palette is from Sleek and it’s a nice mini version that’s great to carry on the go. And the colors show up very well.

I only recently got into blush as I usually find most to be too dark and red on me. This particular blush I’m a fan of because it’s a nice bubblegum pink that I think looks better on my skin than other blushes.

Plus the formula is soft and creamy so it spreads on well and I can use my fingers instead of a brush. If anyone has any good blush suggestions, let me know in the comments!

This particular one (I actually bought two because they stopped selling them in stores) is #45 Orchid Hush by Maybelline.

I don’t usually put on a full face of foundation because I’m afraid it won’t stay on long and I don’t want to clog my pores. But I do like to have tinted BB cream or tinted sunscreen moisturizer around instead.

The BB cream I’ll usually use if I’m having a breakout or there is a spot I want to correct. Otherwise, I just put moisturizer on.

Finally, lipstick.

I recently have come to love lipstick and I love all the different shades and kinds out there. I like these two to use as a neutral on a semi-regular basis, although I also have reds, oranges, and a purple to use.

I got a bunch of these infallible lipsticks on sale one today so I have a variety of those.

Another reason I enjoy lipstick is that I have very dry lips and when my lips get too dry, the skin starts to peel and annoy me. So lipstick reminds me to not touch my lips and apply lip balm so they don’t get too dry and make the lipstick look bad.

Do you have any suggestions for a pale foundation or a pretty blush? Let me know in the comments!
